HALVER, GERMANY - July 17th, 2026 - Märkisches Werk strengthens its sustainability performance. EcoVadis recognition 2026 🌍

We are proud to share that Märkisches Werk has been awarded an EcoVadis Bronze Medal for the second time and this time with an improved score of 68/100, up from 64 in 2025. With a score of 68/100, our performance has moved from the 'Good' to the 'Advanced' category on the EcoVadis scale.

Ranking among the top 11% of companies in the General Machinery Manufacturing industry and the top 25% of all companies assessed globally by EcoVadis, this result reflects our strong and growing position in sustainability.

HALVER, GERMANY - July 5th, 2026 - Two company runs, one great team spirit! 🏃‍♀️

Our colleagues from Grossbodungen kicked things off in Erfurt, taking on the course despite less-than-ideal weather. 💪🌦️

Last Friday, it was our Halver team’s turn at the AOK company run in Lüdenscheid. This time with perfect running conditions .☀️👏

HALVER, GERMANY - May 17th, 2026 - Metal for over 160 years

Our invoice issued on November 13th, 1901 is witness to our long history of metalworking. Our company, then known as Märkische Eisenwaren-Fabrik GmbH delivered two vices to a nearby address by courier.

The addressee is still our neighbor and certainly uses the vices 😃.

HALVER, GERMANY - April 25th, 2026 - MW Family Day

Under perfect April sunshine, we hosted a wonderful family day at our Halver site.

Colleagues from our second location in Großbodungen, Thuringia joined us with their families, making it a truly special day for everyone.

Our teams introduced their workplaces, giving guests a hands-on impression of how our production works, with some of our robots even in action.

With production tours through our new halls, great food, and plenty of activities for kids, there was something for everyone. The highlight? The Bobby car race, where even our management couldn’t resist joining in 🏁

HALVER, GERMANY - April 17th, 2026 - MW is again certified eligible for central bank lending

Märkisches Werk has once again received the "Central Bank Eligibility" certificate from the Deutsche Bundesbank (German Central Bank), which represents a significant recognition of our creditworthiness. Only a select few number of companies are awarded this certification which indicates that MW meets the Deutsche Bundesbank’s strict requirements regarding our financial stability and creditworthiness. Receivables of a central bank-eligible company are so secure that they can be used by banks as collateral for monetary policy purposes. This is not only a sign of our financial reliability and sound business practices but further evidence of our stability as a business partner.

We are immensely proud of this award and see it as an incentive to continue maintaining our high standards.

HALVER, GERMANY - February 22nd, 2026 - Our largest production expansion project is entering its final phase and with it, a true milestone for our future manufacturing capabilities.

At our plant in Halver, we have commissioned a state-of-the-art, fully automated forging press center the largest and most ambitious investment in our history.
This new forging center is a cornerstone of our strategy to expand large bore valve spindle production capacity by 30%. It enables us to meet growing customer demand with shorter lead times, increased reliability, and uncompromising product quality.

The new line combines advanced press technology with intelligent automation:
▪ Four electrically driven upsetting machines operated by industrial robots for maximum precision and repeatability
▪ A new 1,000-ton spindle forging press designed for large valve spindles and high-strength alloys with exceptional process control
▪ Integrated thermal imaging technology to monitor material temperature after upsetting and prior to forging ensuring optimal material flow within strict process windows
▪ Permanent three-shift operation to sustainably increase output and delivery reliability

Beyond increasing capacity, this investment significantly enhances process stability. The automated setup reduces manual influence during the critical forging step, improving repeatability and minimizing variation — especially crucial for components exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical loads in demanding engine applications.

With full integration into serial production since the end of November 2025, this forging center marks the successful completion of our largest expansion project and reinforces our commitment to advanced manufacturing, scalable growth, and global market leadership.

HALVER, GERMANY - October 10th, 2025 - Since January 2023, both of our plants in Germany have been powered by 100% renewable energy, certified with the trusted OK Power label. 💡

Together with our energy efficiency measures, this has enabled us to cut our Scope 2 emissions by around 6,400 tons of CO₂ compared to 2018.

A strong step forward in driving the energy transition and contributing to climate and environmental protection. 🌱

HALVER, GERMANY - September 26th, 2025 - From a small blacksmith’s workshop in 1859 to "Märkische Eisenwarenfabrik" and finally "Märkisches Werk GmbH", our logos reflect more than 160 years of growth, innovation and tradition. What began with local craftsmanship has grown into global leadership. Today we are the global market leader in the development, production and remanufacturing of cylinder head systems and components for large-bore combustion engines as well as high-performance racing engines.

In July 2025, Märkisches Werk was once again classified as an “Excellent Training Company” and thus fulfills the criteria for good vocational training of the seal of approval of the same name.

The award was granted on the basis of the results of an anonymous survey of trainees in May 2025 and the company's current key training figures.

HALVER, GERMANY - May 23rd, 2025 - CIMAC 2025 was an inspiring and rewarding event for our Märkisches Werk team. Our team was proud to contribute with a technical presentation on our 1st methanol generation of valve spindles and seat rings for newbuildings and retrofit, and to showcase our latest innovations at our booth. From fascinating technical sessions to in-depth conversations, we left Zürich with renewed confidence that our industry is on track towards the IMO's goal of net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping by 2050. 🌍

In less than 3 months, CIMAC Congress 2025 in Zürich kicks off. The CIMAC Congress Technical Program is the core of the event and one of the most important international conference programs in the field of large engines, power, drives and propulsion, where the entire industry comes together to review and discuss technical, environmental and regulatory trends, developments, opportunities and challenges.

Märkisches Werk is honored to contribute to the Technical Program again in 2025 with a paper from Dr. Janis Kimm entitled "1st methanol generation of valve spindles and seat rings for newbuildings and retrofit". This paper presents results from a field test and test series of a bespoke model test rig, aiming to develop the first generation of methanol valve spindle and seat ring pairings for intake and exhaust. For this purpose, the effects of methanol and its combustion by-product methanoic acid on the wear behavior of typical valve and seat ring materials were investigated.

HALVER, GERMANY - November 11th, 2024 - Exciting progress at Märkisches Werk Großbodungen! 

Our new fully automated upsetting & forging center, ordered almost two years ago, was delivered on September 12, 2024. This cutting-edge system is designed for valve blanks (6–15 mm bar diameter) and is set to boost throughput by 42% with permanent 3-shift operation.

Current status:
The loading section is complete and commissioned. The unloading section, including the retrofitted 315-ton forging press, started assembly on September 30 and is on track for completion by November 29. Staff training will follow in December, with final approval in January 2025.

Full production is set for late January!

HALVER, GERMANY - September 30th, 2024 - Based on field experience with methanol, extensive material compatibility tests and experience from almost 80 years of valve production, Märkisches Werk GmbH is proud to launch our 1st generation of valve spindles and seat rings for new builds and retrofits using up to 100% methanol injection.

We began this journey several years ago studying the boundary conditions within the combustion chamber. Methanol is a potent cleaning agent which means the typical wear-protective tribofilm formed on the valve seat by carbon-based fuels and lubrication oils is not present, resulting in rapid wearing metal-on-metal contact. That combined with combustion by products such as formic acid presents a unique compatibility challenge for valves and seat rings due to severe tribocorrision.

With that experience in mind, we began exhaustive material compatibility testing to understand the tribocorrision behavior of different base material and hardfacing combinations within the methanol environment. We found that, compared to leading commercially available hardfacing alloys, MW WR Superalloys exhibited the lowest wear values in every compatibility test performed to-date.

Our quest for perfection never stops, thus our 1st generation of valve spindles and seat rings for new builds and retrofits using up to 100% methanol injection is only the beginning. Our customers can be confident that we’re doing our homework so that their methanol engines equipped with these components are ready to do the hard work.

HALVER, GERMANY - September 24th, 2024 -Märkisches Werk GmbH is proud to formally introduce our family of valve spindles and seat rings featuring our proprietary hardfacing alloys, now formally known as MW Wear Resistant (WR) Superalloys.

Almost a decade ago, MWH began developing bespoke, application-specific hardfacing alloys for high performance gas and ultra low-sulfur engine applications. Experience showed that many commercially available hardfacing alloys were simply not capable of meeting the industry's increasing performance and TBO requirements, so we decided to develop our own hardfacing alloys. In recent years, this work has expanded to include hydrogen, methanol and ammonia applications.

MW WR Superalloy products take a systematic approach to the valve & seat ring pairing that encompasses everything from raw material chemistry and grain size, CNC welding parameters, heat treatment, pre- and final-machining and, of course, perfectly matched tribological armoring of valve and seat ring. In our opinion, this philosophy is the only way to truly maximize engine performance, reduce downtime and extend the engine's useful life.

Until today, we have simply referred to MW WR Superalloys as "proprietary MWH hardfacing alloys". Many customers have in fact been operating their engines with valves and seat rings armored with different MW WR Superalloys for almost a decade. But with ever-increasing engine performance requirements, we felt it appropriate to give this increasingly important product line a proper name.

HALVER, GERMANY - June 18th, 2024 - Märkisches Werk GmbH has developed MW NiClad, a novel and sustainable process to repair and reconstruct cast iron cylinder heads damaged by cavitation that would otherwise have to be discarded.

The cylinder head repair process begins by machining off the portions of the cooling water sealing surfaces and seat ring pockets damaged from cavitation and then applying MW NiClad via cladding. The entire cylinder head undergoes a pre- and post-cladding thermal treatment to eliminate residual stresses before the final machining steps return the cylinder head to its original condition and dimensions. The time between overhauls (TBO) of a MW NiClad-treated cylinder head is equal to that of a new cylinder head, thereby extending its lifetime and reducing total cost of ownership.
